It’s dream for every youth in India to go on Ladakh Road Trip, no matter whether it’s on bike or car. They just want drive on the beautiful roads of Ladakh region. Today I like to share the Route map of Srinagar, Leh, Ladakh, Manali road trip which I recently did for the Highest Blogger Meet by the Scoutmytrip & Oyorooms. We completed the entire Ladakh circuit in 10 days in a car. You can follow these itineraries even if you’re thinking about the bike ride.
Day 1: Delhi to Jammu (Around 600 KM)
Start early in the morning from Delhi and take the Pathankot highway to reach the Jammu, distance between the Delhi & Jammu is almost 600 KM, so make sure you halt for very little time. Through the highway is super smooth but has a speed limit and the Haryana Police carrying the speed gun with them.
Day 2: Jammu to Sonmarg via Sri Nagar
Start early from Jammu so that you can reach the Sonmarg on time. You’ve to be careful on this route, as the mountains start from here and Kashmir Valley situation can become tense at any moment.
Day 3: Sonmarg to Kargil
Sonmarg is the beautiful little town, the entire surrounding is beautiful. Here you’ll encounter your first Mountain Pass, Zojila Pass. The Pass is not challenging and can easily be done without any major problem. On the way, don’t forget to stop at Kargil War Memorial.
Day 4: Kargil to Leh
From here, you’ll see the Green mountains left behind and Barren Land starts here. You’ll start getting the Ladakh feeling when driving on this route. The Highway is super smooth and covered with asphalt. On this route, you’ll find Two Mountain Passes: Namikala & Fotu La, Lamayuru Monastery, Moonsland, Magnetic Hill and Indu-Zanskar Confluence.
Day 5: Stay at Leh & Acclimatize
Leh is located at the altitude of 11,480 feet and now time for you to acclimatize here and take the full rest. It’s necessary to take rest here in Leh because from here all the points are located at very high altitude. You can go on sightseeing to cover up your day.
Day 5: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La
Start early morning from Leh so that you reach the Khardung La on time before tourist creates traffic jam there. Spent some time there at Khardung La and If you’re feeling headache then proceed towards the Nubra Valley. You can stop at the Diskit Monastery to capture some good photographs from the top.
Day 6: Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso via Leh, Khardunga La
Nubra to Pangong Tso is very long distance route, so start early in the morning. Do not stop anywhere till you reach Leh. Karu is the last Petrol Pump till the Keylong so make sure fill the tank and carry the extra fuel in the jerry can. After Karu, you’ll start the ascends towards the Chang La, the second Highest Motorable Mountain pass. At evening, you’ll reach the Pangong Tso, if you manage to reach at Sunset time then do capture some beautiful pictures.
NOTE: Bikers have to take a one day halt at Leh and cover the half distance on the other day.
Day 7: Pangong Tso to Tso Moriri
This is the best route of the entire Ladakh trip, you drive along the Pangong Tso till chusul. After that, you’ll be greeted with Wetlands with beautiful scenery on both sides of the road.
Day 8: Tso Moriri to Key Long
Start early from Tso Moriri so that you can take a pitstop at Tso Kar, Morre Plains, and Gata loops. At morre plains, you’ll find the clean asphalt surface where you love to drive.
Day 9: Key Long to Manali
From Key long to Manali, you’ll cross two Mountain Pass Baralacha la & Rohtang Pass. Both passes are beautiful and you’ll be blown by the beauty of the Manali mountains. These mountains are full of green meadow, waterfalls, and clouds
Day 10: Manali to Delhi
Now you’re back to the highway, you can now go little faster. Take less break as you’ve to cover the great distance and you’ll reach Delhi by late night.
