My School friend’s Wedding provided us with an opportunity to visit Jodhpur, Rajasthan, this is my first visit as an adult, the last time I was there at a relative wedding when I was a little kid. Jodhpur is considered a gateway to the desert part of Rajasthan. From here you can visit famous Desert locations such as Jaisalmer & Bikaner.
Jodhpur’s most famous attraction is the Mehrangarh Fort which was built around the 14th Century by Rajput King Rao Jodha. Just like every Fort in Rajasthan, Mehrangarh Fort is also located on a hilltop in Jodhpur and the fort can be seen from a distance.
You need at least 2-3 hours to fully enjoy the fort and also take a water bottle as you’ve to cover long and hilly areas around the fort.

There is ample vehicle parking on the outer side of the Fort and from there you can walk inside the fort through a series of 7 magnificent gates and In Dedh Kamgra Pol, you can see the scars of bombardment by cannonballs.
The fort consists of several museums, artifacts, viewpoints, galleries, courtyards, armory etc. Within the fort, you’ll also find several preserved rooms such as Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesha Mahal and Daulat Khana.
The Bedroom belongs to one of the Kings who has the most number of wives, around 48. The room is well preserved and you can only see it from distance, you’re not allowed to enter the room.
In the fort, you can also see the Mughal era Swords which were gifted to the King of Marwar at the Museum.
There are many places on top of the fort where you can enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the entire city with some of the beautiful blue-colored houses and also the view of Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park.
Mehrangarh is a huge fort and the view from the top is worth the effort you made to climb. The best time to visit the fort is either Early in the Morning or at Sunset time.
