If you’re looking to spend some time in nature, surrounded by mountains and greenery with a river flowing through the valley, the Phulwari Ki Nal Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place to visit.
The place is magical for those seeking a spot for wildlife photography, camping, or a bike or car road trip.
Location:
- Distance: 110 KM from Udaipur
- Area: 511.41 km²
- Best Time to Visit: August to May
How to Reach:
If you’re planning a road trip, I suggest going by bike to fully enjoy the sanctuary. The sanctuary road is quite narrow.
If you don’t plan to stay overnight, start your day early as there’s much to explore, and you’ll need to return before dark.
The roads to Phulwari Ki Nal are good. Take the Gogunda highway and reach Som. From Som, turn right to reach Phulwari Ki Nal. The new highway bypasses Som Village, so keep checking the map to avoid missing the exit and ending up at the Gujarat border.
After crossing Som Village, you’ll encounter the Som Ghata (Loop). The road is narrow, so drive carefully to the top. Once at the top, you’ll be greeted by the Forest Department Gate, marking the start of the Phulwari Ki Nal boundary.
The Phulwari Ki Nal Wildlife Sanctuary is vast, so decide how far you want to go. If you go all the way, you’ll reach Kotra, Gujarat.
I recommend going to the popular Sabarmati River Viewpoint, which is 22 km from the Phulwari Ki Nal Sanctuary Gate. The viewpoint and Forest Department guesthouse are located after Panarwa Village. The guesthouse comes immediately after Panarwa Village, and the viewpoint is further ahead.
Best Time to Visit Phulwari Ki Nal:
The monsoon and winter seasons are the best times to visit the Phulwari Ki Nal Wildlife Sanctuary. During these seasons, the sanctuary is lush green with low-hanging clouds, and the Vakal River flows strongly. The sanctuary also blooms with fragrant, colorful flowers.
Sightseeing in Phulwari Ki Nal:
You can enjoy the beautiful view of the Vakal River, which bisects the sanctuary and flows southwards to join the famous Sabarmati River in Gujarat.
In this sanctuary, you can enjoy trekking, camping, birdwatching, exploring historical sites, visiting waterfalls, and spotting amazing wildlife like flying squirrels, four-horned antelopes, pangolins, sloth bears, Indian balloon frogs, and panthers.
Phulwari Ki Nal is a beautiful place to enjoy nature. However, I appeal to all tourists and adventure seekers to maintain cleanliness and peace in nature.
Go there, enjoy nature, and leave no trace behind.
