The popular 5-star Hotel chain Shangri-La opens Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort & Spa in Sri Lanka. The 300-room beachfront Resort is opened on a 145-acre former coconut plantation of the southern coastline of Sir Lanka.
Shangri-La Hambantota Resort & Spa provide the best of Sri Lanka which includes blue water of Indian Ocean, coconut trees, a colourful heritage, wildlife and exotic birds in nearby national parks, historic temples, quaint fishing villages and the beautiful beaches.
The resort was built in tropical essence in mind, when you enter the resort you’ll be greeted with open-air lobby made of natural materials and dotted with local handicrafts. On Arrival, Guest can enjoy the magnificent view of the sea, the sound of waves and ocean breeze. The resort has private tuk-tuk which takes you to the private guestroom.
Rooms
The standard rooms come with 48 square metres of the area which features louvered shutters and polished wooden floors, a balcony with the admiring view of the garden where peacocks can be spotted. The spacious bathrooms have stone-clad bathtubs and rain showers.
The 21 suites have base area of 96 to 240 square metres which come with a balcony and oversized rattan furniture to lounge in.
Spa
The CHI Spa is the perfect place to get the Ayurvedic treatments which are delivered using 100% organic herbs and natural products after a personal consultation with the guest. The spa has 12 indoor and outdoor treatment rooms.
Leisure Outdoor Activities
The Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort & Spa has three salt-water swimming pools including the sunset pool and a freeform pool. The pool blends with the resort scenic landscape of flora and leafy surrounds.
If Pool is not your cup of tea then you can try your hands on Golf. The resort is the first in Sri Lanka to have its own golf course. Designed by Rodney Wright, it encompasses a revitalized former sapphire mine. Players encounter three zones that present infinity ocean views, wide fairways and testing water and bunker features. Lush vegetation and birdlife can be seen along the 5,584-metre long course of salt-tolerant grass. Eco-friendly attributes include the use of degradable organic balls (filled with fish feed) at the driving rage and an irrigation system that harvests and recycles rain water for the course.
Other outdoor activities include beach volleyball, mountain biking, jogging, yoga classes and stretching.
A Cool Zone is there for kids which has arts & crafts, a flying trapeze, the drone flying experience, trampolining and the water park.
There is also Kadamandiya Village near the resort where you can learn crafting as well you can purchase them.
In the evening, Kadamandiya Village is transformed to stage scheduled dance, music, and Angampora – Sri Lanka’s indigenous martial art – performances amid servings of local cuisine and refreshments.
Restaurant
The Resort has four restaurants and bars which offer Continental as well as Sri Lanka dishes.
Room rates start at US$216, single or double occupancy, and include breakfast. The resort can be reached by air from Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport and Hambantota’s Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, which is 35 kilometres away, or by car via a 240-kilometre coastal road.
